Zokuleon Facts

Zokuleons are powerfully psychic creatures whose abilities are channeled through their orbs. All Zokuleons are capable of performing localized levitation on their orbs as well as engaging in telekinetic speech, and each Zokuleon is a powerhouse of massive psychic potential unique to that individual. Their powers manifest themselves in every psychic shape imaginable; from psychokinesis, to mind reading to pyrokinesis. If it falls into the category of psychic abilities, there is sure to be a Zokuleon out there who specializes in that power.

Zokuleons are not social creatures by nature and avoid living in groups. They establish their territories in the treetops and will readily fight each other for prime spots as well as defend their domain against any intruders. The only time Zokuleons are ever seen in close proximity is in when captivity, when they are hatchlings or when it is time to mate.

Zokuleons are opportunistic feeders and will eat just about anything they can get their claws on; flowers, fruit, certain leaves, birds, insects, smaller reptiles...the list is limited only to what they can manage to fit into their stomachs. Adults will even engage in cannibalizing smaller Zokuleons if given the chance. When kept as pets, they are typically fed on a steady diet of fruit salads and small rodents though the occasional Zokuleon has been known to enjoy a snack of peppermint candy.

When born, Zokuleons are small enough to perch on a human finger. They reach their maximum growth (about the size of a large house cat) in two to three years. Zokuleon mothers lay their leathery eggs in clutches of three to seven inside hollow trees or other natural shelters. They protect the eggs until they hatch and watch over the young until they are a few weeks old and capable of living on their own.

During the first few weeks in which their mother cares for them, hatchlings have no psychic abilities and must venture down to the forest floor to find a suitable "core" for their orbs. This is usually a small seed, a pebble, or some other hard and vaguely round object that their growing psychic powers can crystallize around. Once a hatchling has secured a core and their psychic powers begin blossoming, the mother shoos them out of her territory. Hatchlings usually band together for up to six months to ensure safety in numbers before eventually splitting up and finding their own territory.

A Zokuleon's orb will never get much larger than its own head and it is the quality of the orb which shows the psychic abilities of the lizard to whom it belongs. A clear orb that refracts light brilliantly is the sign of incredible psychic prowess, but this is a rare occurrence - most Zokuleons' orbs are at least a little cloudy. As far as it is understood, the color of the orb seems to have no connection with psychic ability or potential, and as of yet, no one understands what determines the color of the orb. This is, of course, excluding the Zokuleons who are mutated using the powers of a Pandoria Box.

If a Zokuleon were to loose its orb, it would quickly lose control of its psychic abilities and would be no longer physically able to release psychic energy from its large brain. This build up of psychic pressure over time causes Zokuleons to lose their minds if the imbalance is not soon rectified. There is a point similar to the 'event horizon' of a black hole, and once a Zokuleon reaches this point, attempting to reconnect the Zokuleon with its orb would be useless - the brain would already be irreversibly damaged. The time limit on the amount of psychic pressure a Zokuleon's brain can withstand is about three weeks, but it can be longer or shorter depending on the inherent power of the psychic abilities. Three months without an orb, however, will result in death in most cases, usually from extreme psychic brain trauma.

Although Zokuleons are more than capable of speaking to any sentient species with their telepathy, they often choose to remain silent. This is just another part of their quirky personalities.
